Voice recorder
- Open the app (Start, all apps, Voice Recorder)
- Tap the mic to record
- Press stop to stop!
- Long press on file name and tap ‘Rename’ to rename file
- Access older recording at the top of the screen
Sending sound file in an email
- Long press on file name and tap ‘Share’ to attach to an email
Once you have made your recording, you might like to edit it using Audacity.
Things you can quickly achieve include trimming the start / end of the file, boosting the volume and slowing down / speeding up. To do this you need to open the recording in Audacity
Opening in Audacity……
(only possible when ‘After upgrading to Windows 10’ patch has been applied – see bit.do/hmstablets)
- Open Voice Recorder
- Long press on file name + tap ‘Open file location’ to open folder containing file
- Long press on file name and tap ‘Open with’
- Tap ‘Choose another app’
- Scroll up and tap ‘More apps’
- Scroll up and tap ‘Look for another app’
- Tap on the folder ‘Audacity’
- Tap on ‘Audacity’
Once open in Audacity you can try the following
Trim start / end
- ‘Pinch’ the recording to contract / expand
- Use the scroll bar to move backwards and forwards
- Touch and drag to highlight unwanted areas
- ‘Delete’ on keyboard deletes the highlighted area
- (Ctrl+z is undo if you make a mistake)
Make it all louder
- CTRL+A to select entire recording
- Alt then ‘c’ brings up effects menu (or tap on Effect)
- Tap on Normalize and OK
Slow it down without changing the pitch
- CTRL+A to select entire recording
- Alt then ‘c’ brings up effects menu (or tap on Effect)
- Tap on Change tempo, select percentage change and tap OK
Also try pitch, speed and some of the other effects
You can of course record directly with Audacity
Recording
- Open Audacity
- Press record (red circle)
- Speak / play sound
- Press stop (yellow square)
How about getting a child to play a duet with themselves?
Multitrack recording – (needs headphones)
- Record the first track (and press stop)
- Tap the rewind icon
- Tap record to lay down a second track whilst listening to the first
Once you have finished editing, you can save your completed masterpiece as follows
Saving
- Shift + Ctrl + E to save
- Select the destination
(maybe create a new folder on the desktop?) - Give it a name
- Tap Save and OK
If you want to email your Audacity edited recording…..
Attach to email
- Go to Mail app
- Start new message
- Insert – Attach
- Navigate to recording and select and tap open
